Week 4 – Sth East Queensland
After some lovely days in Noosa, Natalie and Tom continued in their Jucy camper-van down to south east Queensland. They first stopped by Australia Zoo and the Glasshouse Mountains, before continuing down to Brisbane and Gold Coast. Their adventures from this week included; getting up and close with animals, attending the official Travello meetup, abseiling, helicopter tour and much more! Read on to see what else they got up to along around south east Queensland…
Australia Zoo & Glasshouse Mountains
The week started off with a trip to Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast. The famous Australian zoo is owned by Terri Irwin, the widow of the late “crocodile hunter”, Steve Irwin, and is located on the Sunshine Coast. The Zoo boasts a large collection of animals and shows, which Natalie and Tom got to experience up and close. The day at the zoo was topped off when they were about to leave and ran into none other than Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late Steve Irwin, who is a famous actress and conservationist. Crikey, what an experience! After their fan moment, Tim, from Shakas Tour, took them to see the famous Glasshouse Mountains, which are an impressive group of 13 hills on the Sunshine Coast. After taking in the amazing sights of the mountains, they continued on to Brisbane.
Brisbane & Travello Meetup
Natalie and Tom arrived in Brisbane, which is Australia’s third largest city, and checked into the Brisbane City YHA
, where they each got their own room. The hostel is located in the city center of Brisbane, which meant that they had a short walk to the Down Under Bar and Grill, a popular place for backpackers, and where the official Travello meetup was happening. Backpackers from all around the world, along with locals and the Travello team, were at the event. After some quiz games and dancing, Natalie and Tom gave out, on behalf of Travello, some amazing prizes to two lucky Travello users who attended the event. The next day, the founders of Travello, Mark Cantoni and Ryan Hanly, took Natalie and Tom up in a helicopter for a tour over Brisbane city, with V2 Helicopters
. It just so happens that Mark has a helicopter license! After the helicopter tour the adventures continued with Tim, from Shakas Tour, who gave them a guided tour of the city before they went abseiling off the cliffs of Kangaroo Point. Not bad for 2 days in Brisbane!
Gold Coast & Award Ceremony
After two adventurous days in Brisbane, Natalie and Tom left the city and continued south towards Gold Coast. But, before they reached the city, they stopped by the theme park, Warner Bros. Movie World, which is a popular attraction close to Gold Coast. The park has 26 rides and several studios that are still being used for movies today. They enjoyed the thrills of the roller coasters and the shows in the park before they made their way onward to Gold Coast. They checked into Surfers Paradise YHA, which has a great location on Main Beach. Gold Coast is Queensland’s second largest city, and Surfers Paradise is a popular area for backpackers with its nightlife and beaches that are great for surfing. Paradise jetboating took Natalie and Tom out on a fun ride around the waterways that go around the city, so they could see the city and the amazing houses along the water. Next up it was time for some surf lessons with GetWetSurf, and then some SUP with Go Vertical Sup. Even though their time in the Gold Coast was packed with fun activities, they still had time for some partying with the Travello team, as Travello took home the award for Innovation,at the AU/NZ Adventure Tourism Award Ceremony
The award ceremony with the Travello team was a nice way to end their journey through Queensland, after traveling through the state for 4 weeks. With a brand new Jucy camper-van that they got to test out, it was now time to cross the nearby border and venture into New South Wales for some new adventures…
